suppose in this early age adoption of IPv6, no problem with ICMPv6.

it is need for Neighbor Discovery and Path MTU Discovery (autoconfiguration).

If you've filtered ICMP on your network then you may also want to ICMPv6. As said by Mohd. Fitri, ICMPv6 is highly used by ND.

 

Reason of filtering ICMPv6: same reason why you would want to filter ICMP in the first place :)
