it is need for Neighbor Discovery and Path MTU Discovery (autoconfiguration).
Permalink Reply by Adil Hidayat on February 11, 2011 at 10:19am If you've filtered ICMP on your network then you may also want to ICMPv6. As said by Mohd. Fitri, ICMPv6 is highly used by ND.
Reason of filtering ICMPv6: same reason why you would want to filter ICMP in the first place :)
